Okay, a few things. Kevin, I did not say VII was the best, even though I feel that way- I just said it rocks. FFVII set the standard for console RPGs- graphically, plotwise and overall. I have played VI, and although it was admittedly one of the better 8-bit styled games, it was an 8-bit, and thus a continuation. I will admit the plot and gameplay were excellent, but -and this is important now- they were not GROUNDBREAKING. No matter how into it you got, you never got the same chill as you did when Sephiroth appeared, wreathed in flame, with a gleam in his eye that made you want to wet your pants- nor did you quite get the sheer emotional intensity you get at the end of disc one, when <SPOILER just as you thought threat had been averted, Sephiroth appears out of nowhere and kills her.SPOILER> The continued popularity of both Cloud and Sephiroth- not to mention the fact that they are making a movie- shows that, while FFVI touched the gamer psyche, FFVII impaled it on a long, thin blade. I will not argue over the better game- you have your opinion, and I have mine. However, I think that the fact that nearly every Final Fantasy game after VII is based, to some greater or lesser degree, on it is good enough to show popularity, if not quality. Wow that was long. Now I'm going to bed.
