Let us go through this now. VII rocks. end of story. VIII doesn't rock... but it doesn't neccasarily suck, either. IX sucks. Zidane is a pansy. X... er... sucks. yeah, it's better than IX, but that's not saying much. Some things are cool, but overall... yeah, it sux. X-2 sucks. Tactics advanced sucks. I'm pretty sure Crystal Chronicals and XI suck, too, but I'm not so sure. A lot of the stuff before VII rocked. Chrono Triger rocks. You may now agree or flame to your heart's content.

I'm sry david, I can't agree with you about ff IX I honestly loved it, I loved the comical part of the game, and the battles, and plus the whole weapon scheme of that weapons had the abilities that which you learned so it wasn't like you find a better weapon buy it! it was this weapon had a key abilitie to use, so stay around and level up dernit! oh and I loved X-2 because it was on the spot thinking, it wasn't you wait your turn it was if you don't select fast, your opponents gonna knock the shint outta ya, and the whole clothes thing, it technacally like some of the old ff games where you get to select your clarsees, I.E. FFI, and I have played crystal chronicals, and FF XI and they were both very excellent games, and you failed to mention FF VIII suckyness it had some good parts, but I couldn't stand the retarded parts like, OMG The schools gonna be hit by this big asteroid...wait, what does this lever do!? YAY the school is really a flyin ship! just....bs....and the whole draw thing..........SUCKED POINTLESS NO NEED FOR MP....WTF!? but all in all, I can't wait for ffXII that should be a very good game

Sorry to anyone this might offend but VII was not the best, it came pretty dern near close, but I'm sorry gameplay and storyline were just better in VI. But I digress, here's a rundown for everyone:
I = the thing that started it all, the best thing out during its time that rivaled Enix's almighty Dragon Warrior. (Own it)
II = I have yet to play this myself but it introduced a whole new stat building system in which what you did in battles affected character development, very novel idea. (own it)
III = Never played it, wasn't released in America.
IV = Back to the original stat development system and also first Final Fantasy (released in America) that had the same characters throughout it no matter how you played allowing more character interaction and storyline development, also only Final Fantasy to ever allow five characters in a party. (Own it)
V = Reintroduced the job system that had appeared in the first game except allowed all characters to switch between clarsees allowing very versatile gameplay, well developed story to go with it, also introduced the idea of hidden characters into the Final Fantasy series with Gogo. (Own it)
VI = Argueably one of the golden games of Squaresoft, more developed than ever before in terms of both graphics, gameplay, and storyline, also introduced the "leaarning from items" with the equipable Esper system that taught both spells and customized stats. (Own it)
VII = Veiwed as the best by many due to the elegant transition from SNES catridges to the PSX cds, introduced the materia system and slots in weapons used nowadays by games (with adaptions) such as Diablo 2 (sockets), one of the few games that killed a mainstream character that plays a role throughout the entire game, also had many storylines (of characters) tie together in some way in the past, introduced also the chocobo breeding system. (Own it)
VIII = Introduced the draw system of magic disliked by many and the mini-game Tetra Master, was the farthest the series went in the tech advanced era gameplay, veiwed as too much of a love story by many, also introduced the GF (Guardian Force) system that allowed you to customize the all to important summons and the junction system that allowed further customization of characters. (Own it)
IX = Square's "Return to the roots" before Final Fantasy was moved on to the next generation of gaming systems, moved more towards the old "medieval-fantasy element" but still had advanced technology in it, brought back the system used in VI with learning from items (VI had actually only learned from certain items called Espers which were essentially the games summons), also really brought back the character clarsees with their specializations (Zidane-Thief, Dagger-White Mage/Summoner, Steiner-Fighter/Knight, etc.), good gameplay, reintroduced chocobos as a major mini-game element that America had missed, also brought back the protaganist's "Illusionment with self" story that VII had tried to get across, good story with well developed elements. (Own it)
X = Many mixed reviews come with this Final Fantasy, first one to be placed on the next gen systems, superior graphics blew both old and new fans away, character truely "talked" with voices during major cutscenes and also minor ones as well as battles, extremely linear gameplay, reintroduced the summons customization shown in VIII with new adaptations and also brought in weapon customization, introduced new stat development and spell learning system in the new sphere grid, also introduced the blitzball mini-game (first quasi-sport mini-game other than racing) along with a variety of others, average story line, introduced switching party members in-battle, also allowed players to purchase movies (cutscenes) they liked. (Own it)
X-2 = First ever sequel Final Fantasy, focused more on female players (though some guys enjoyed hours of staring at only three females), reintroduced the job system with new and altered clarsees as the dress sphere system (referred to as the giant game of dress-up), introduced the percentage system complete sytem and had two paths to travel in the game (therefore causing people to replay the game if they want the 100% complete), not an extremely good storyline, but numerous mini-games to try and make up for it, also stuck with the same three characters throughout the entire game. (Own it)
XI = First ever online Final Fantasy, you pay a monthly subscription to play. Don't own it, and frankly I dont care because of the monthly payment.
Final Fantasy Tactics = First Final Fantasy set to the Tactics theme (actual square, block based battlefields), long battles (sometimes an hour or more) and enemies that leveled up with you (unless it was a storyline mission) made this long and difficult, used the job system with many new additions and job points to put towards the purchase of job skills you wanted, well developed and great story but it took too long to get to the next part of the story, first game to bring Cloud back from VII. (Own it)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance = Uber amounts of handheld fun, story was good enough, but the gameplay made this a good game, also on the tactics "plane" it introduced battle limitations too make you think a bit more in the form of law cards, also introduced actual other races that you could select your companions from, much easy than the regular tactics, story was progressed by taking on missions that you either went on yourself or sent people from your "troupe" to do. (Own it)
There were also a handful of other Final Fantasy games that were released on the original gameboy under a company called Sunsoft I believe. Also there was another game for SNES, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, that many people dubbed the American Final Fantasy because they didn't think it was that good, but it actuallly wasnt half-bad. Final Fantasy characters have also made a huge appearance in both Kingdom Hearts (PS2) and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (GBA).
Thats it, I'm done, screw you guys, that was alot.

That covers IV (4) through IX (9), they re-released the old ones from NES and SNES onto the newer systems. IV (4) comes with Chrono Trigger (another God-like RPG) on Final Fantasy Chronicles for PSX (or PS1 if you wanna call it that), V (5) and VI (6) come on Final Fantasy Anthologies on PSX, then VII (7), VIII (8), and IX (9) all come on PSX as their own game. I (1) and II (2) are also on PSX in Final Fantasy Origins but I dont own that, I instead have them on Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls for GBA (gotta love my gameboy lol).

honestly I hated 8's story line couldn't stand it, I loved 9's comedy and with kevin's earlier point I think it was well plotted and I like his opinion, but I can't agree with it, I still think ff7 was a very played out storyline, and I just loved that fact that it had some psycological aspect to it, hell you even get to go into cloud's subconcious I loved that part, it just looked cool, and XI is a very good mmorpg, and I suggest anyone who is into that type of games to seriously look into it, nothing is more fun then playing a tarutaru monk, woot!
